There are at least 25 million people who are currently infected with HIV/AIDS and they do not know it. Many people would rather not know that they have the disease and they avidly avoid testing to find out their status. Recent research has shown that in China there is a big increase in the amount of people who are infected with AIDS and at least 82% of those people who are infected, received it through sexual transmission. Research is also showing that many of the people who knowingly have AIDS/HIV avoid getting themselves treated.
We do not want another epidemic on our hands, so it is imperative that we raise our awareness and encourage everyone that it is extremely important to get tested and know your status. For those who are currently infected, it is also equally important to seek out the proper treatment to keep yourselves healthy and to avoid any complications from the disease. This will also reduce the transmission of the disease. Proper treatment can improve the quality and longevity of life in AIDS patients by over 38%. Many of those infected and getting treatment are living to the age of 80 years old.
The more awareness that is raised about AIDS, the less myth and misconceptions surrounding the crisis will remain. This will induce an acceptance and help make the lives of those living with and without AIDS much easier.
